Personal Growth with Long Term Practice of TM

With such initial benefits as a clearer head, more vitality, better sleep and more positive outlook, life becomes a lot more enjoyable as a process of balanced growth has begun. Steadily the quality of your life improves as time goes by with regular TM practice and goals seem to be achieved far more easily.

Here is an example from a well-known New Zealander ...

'Before I started Transcendental Meditation my mind was a clutter of self talk. Very repetitive and doubting my ability. Through practice of Transcendental Meditation on a regular basis I am now able to daily erase this self talk and think effortlessly through a clear mind.' Michael Hill, Jeweller.

The world remains the same but when you are functioning better from within you experience it with much greater appreciation, as affirmed by another Kiwi achiever ...

'Transcendental Meditation has been part of my life for almost two decades. It helps me stay relaxed and in control even in the most stressful of circumstances, enables me to experience deeper levels of awareness, aids in problem-solving, creativity and generally stimulates and enhances my total well-being.' - Alison Roe, businesswoman and former marathon world record holder.

Overall Improvements in Health.   In a study published in 'Psychosomatic Medicine' 49 (1987), the health insurance statistics of about 2000 people who practiced TM over a five year period showed that the group had considerably less than average incidence of hospitalisation and out-patient treatment compared with the other 600,000 subscribers of that particular health insurance company, Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

46.8% less often if they were children, 54.7% less often if they were young adults, and 73.7 % less often if they were older adults (40 years and over).

Analysis of different disease categories showed that the TM group had: 87.3% fewer admissions for heart disease, 87% less hospitalisation for nervous system disorders, 73% less nose, throat and lung problems, and 55.4% fewer admissions for cancer.

Mental Development  Psychologists have said for a long time that the average person uses only 5-10 percent of his or her mental potential, so clearly our capacity for development of consciousness is enormous. TM develops the total potential of the brain and puts each individual on the path toward enlightenment  or 'the fullest development of consciousness based on the perfect and harmonious functioning of the body, in particular, the central nervous system'.

Higher states of consciousness are indicated by a number of factors including an unshakeable self-experience of wellbeing, knowingness, insight, warmth, happiness and a connectedness to life as a whole. Studies also indicate  refinement of physiological functioning in those reporting experiences of the growth of enlightenment.

The practice of TM gives the experience of transcendental consciousness, the simplest form of awareness when the mind has transcended, or settled beyond any level of conscious thinking activity and has become identified with the infinite field of pure creative intelligence which is at the basis of all life.

With the passage of time, those who regularly practice TM find that the dynamic yet serene qualities of transcendental consciousness permeate mental and physical functioning more and more outside of the TM sessions, whether one is awake, asleep or dreaming. In short, life is bliss as you use more of your inner potential!

An Enlightened Society and a Peaceful World

The experience of transcending benefits not only the individual but it generates an influence of coherence and harmony in the collective consciousness of the whole society. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi predicted as early as 1960 that positive global trends would result from world-wide practice of TM, and objective evidence of this emerged in 1974 when a study showed that cities experienced a reduction in crime, sickness and accident rates when the number of the population practicing TM reached 1%.

The successful outcomes of controlled studies on this phenomenon, which has become known as the Maharishi Effect, have been published in at least nine scientific journals dealing with the resolution of conflict.

It has been found that groups of people using Maharishi's advanced TM-Sidhi programme can bring about the same effect when the number in the group is only the square root of one percent of the population of the city, or nation. At present, groups of such experts are being assembled  in sufficient numbers to permanently create the Maharishi Effect for the whole world, and this will be borne out by increasingly positive events on the international level being reported in the news media.
